Curriculum Solution

The learnfromschool uses a blended learning environment to implement a fully Common Core State Standard aligned curriculum in all content areas. Students learn through direct specialized instruction as well as online learning. The multisensory approach to instruction also includes traditional textbooks, hands-on opportunities and experiential learning. We also have a number of online intervention programs for math and reading that provide ongoing progress monitoring data that is crucial for the classroom staff to develop and evaluate student progress.

Our virtual high school curriculum provides instruction in all high school courses; it allows students to choose classes that can be difficult to provide in a small private school environment, and also provides a remedial experience for students who were not able to succeed in settings with traditional classroom instruction.

The use of a blended learning program at learnfromSchools has been very successful in providing a rigorous curriculum while improving the proficiency and academic growth of our students specific to their learning needs.

For our students with developmental challenges who require additional supports, our teachers use a curriculum that offers reading, math, science, social studies, life skills, and prevocational assessment and instruction, and a related program that provides weekly current events. These programs use visuals in addition to text to present information to students with unique learning needs.

Music instruction is provided through a contract with the Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. This includes activities such as instruments and movement for younger students, and composing music on an iPad for older students. Art instruction is provided by teachers from the Newport Art Museum. The learnfromSchools have two physical education teachers who serve all of our students, and are also able to provide adapted physical education to students with special motor needs.

We utilize textbooks and other traditional learning materials, as well as tablets, interactive whiteboards, and computers, so that all students can access the curriculum in a flexible manner that focuses on their learning needs.

Our students also participate in social-emotional learning. Our classroom teams and clinicians use varied evidence-based strategies to introduce skills that can help students succeed behaviorally, socially, and in coping with challenging emotional circumstances.

We offer classes leading to a high school diploma in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. In addition, we support students through community service and the senior project process. Our students participate in the state assessment process, and we focus upon developing proficiency in all academic areas.

How Curriculum Alignment Helps

Elementary School: Grades K-5

Setting the Foundation for a Lifetime of Learning

The elementary school years are a critical time for students to not only learn fundamental concepts and mechanics but to also develop learning skills and approaches that will set the stage for a lifetime of success.

Calvert’s engaging Kindergarten–5th Grade courses focus on children’s natural curiosity and encourage them to delve deep into topics and subject areas – not because they have to – but because they are passionate about learning.

Calvert Education’s Elementary curriculum fosters and encourages critical thinking skills through project-based learning opportunities. Courses include a variety of learning approaches, from interactive, digital activities to hands-on projects that add fun and engagement to students’ learning. These activities focus on children’s natural sense of curiosity and encourage them to explore, discover, and creatively showcase what they’ve learned.

Elementary School Curriculum That Meets Each Student’s Academic Needs

  • Our elementary school curriculum focuses on the four core subject areas: Math, Science, English Language Arts and History/Social Studies – plus electives.
  • Students will develop strong reading comprehension skills, write original composition pieces, develop critical thinking skills, learn fundamental math concepts, read classic literature, explore a variety of science topics, and learn about the world around them.
  • At Calvert, we understand that today’s students learn differently than students many years ago. That’s why we continually review our programs to include the most up-to-date approaches and technologies that appeal to young learners.
  • Calvert has integrated e-textbooks, video, and online resources into our curriculum to provide students with a dynamic, fun, and enriching learning experience.

Our engaging Elementary School curriculum will encourage your students to explore, discover, and excel while learning fundamental concepts that lead to academic success for years to come.
